Frequently Asked Questions

HIV and STDs

When should I be tested for syphilis?

If you think you may have been exposed, you should get tested ASAP. Like any antibody test, the syphilis test usually turns positive 4-6 weeks after exposure. Symptoms usually show up anywhere from 2-12 weeks after being exposed.
Initial symptoms are a painless sore at the site of infection. Call 503-988-3700 or visit the MCHD STD clinic at 426 SW Stark Street, 6th Floor in Portland for no and low cost testing.
