HIV and STDs

Can I give or get anal warts after I’ve been treated?

Anal warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), a virus easily transmitted during sex. People can have HPV, with no visible warts, and transmit the virus to others. So after treatment, it is still possible.

Wart viruses are really common---about 60-70% of all adults have been exposed---and not everyone actually gets visible warts. Condoms are a great way to prevent the spread of HIV, Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and herpes.
Condoms may reduce by not eliminate risk of getting or giving anal warts.
