What is it and how is it spread?
Hepatitis B (HBV) is a virus that lives in an infected person's blood, semen
(cum), saliva/spit, urine/piss, and feces/shit. It is very infectious and
can be spread when doing the following:
• fucking
• sharing injection drug equipment (i.e. rigs)
• sucking cock
• scat or shit play
• rimming or licking ass
• sharing sex toys
• other activities like kissing, sharing toothbrushes/razors, and
watersports or piss play
Why worry about hepatitis B?
Gay and bi guys who have multiple sex partners are 10 to 15 times more likely
to acquire HBV than the general population. HBV is easier to catch than
HIV because it is over 100 times more concentrated in an infected person's
blood and it can exist on surfaces outside the body.
In about 15% of people, the body can not get rid of Hepatitis B and they
become chronically infected. World-wide chronic hepatitis B infections is
associated with liver cancer.
What do I do if I get Hepatitis B?
Once exposed to Hepatitis B, you have to ride it out. For the first few
weeks, an infected person usually has no symptoms and is most infectious
to others. Then, many will have flu-like symptoms, such as fever, aches,
chills, vomiting and diarrhea. Once symptoms subside (sometimes after several
months), you are no longer infectious. At that point, you can’t give
it to others and will never get it again (called natural immunity).
In about 15% of people, the body can not get rid of Hepatitis B and they
become chronically infected. Consult your health care provider for treatment
options for chronic hepatitis B.
How do I avoid getting HBV infection?
• Get vaccinated for hepatitis B! (3 shots in 6 months for complete
protection)!
• Protect yourself and others and use condoms for anal (butt) and
vaginal.
• Use new, clean injection drug gear for each shot.
